Milissa Tarquini
Scripps Networks InteractiveMilissa Tarquini is Vice President, Product UX and Design at Scripps Networks Interactive, the secret-wizard-company behind Food Network, HGTV, and The Travel Channel. Milissa has led the transformations of each network’s digital presence, helping over 50 million people a month find that perfect cookie recipe (hint: all of them) or decide between adding throw pillows or grabbing a sledgehammer to fix up the living room (hint: sledgehammer is more fun, pillows are fluffy). Her work at Scripps has brought about a multi-platform product design strategy and an entire suite of mobile applications and experiences. From TV Everywhere apps for the TV networks to utility apps such as the 5-star rated and Apple Hall of Fame award winner Food Network In the Kitchen. Prior to Scripps, Milissa managed to survive at Aol for 15 years, where she directed the UX design of all 85 Aol websites, their mobile applications and content publishing tools. Her very first app, Daily Finance for Aol earned a spot on one of the first Apple TV commercials for applications. She realizes she may have mentioned Apple a lot, but she is hoping for a new MacBook Pro and maybe someone will surprise her. Milissa has a distaste for all things buzz-wordy unless the buzz-words in question are entirely made up in an effort to win a contest of “who can make the executive say “x”, for that is a truly noble pursuit. She thinks that the design world is spending too much time talking about *how* we work and she wishes we could get back to talking about what we believe in and how that manifests itself in the products we build.
